henry_ting2
I'm trying to get some numbers here for market research. How many M users here wear spectacles and how many use an external diopter instead. Thanks in advance.

abufletcher
Henry, Might I suggest that you will perhaps get better, easier, and more scientific market research if you use SurveyMonkey to set up a free online survey and then post the address for you survey to a couple of Leica lists. This is a completely free web-based service. It has become very popular among educators. It will automatically tabulate all your results as well. http://www.surveymonkey.com/home.asp?bhcd2=1058769367 As far as your informal survey, YES I wear glasses and this is one of the main reasons I opted for the .58 VF on my M6TTL. That and I LOVE wide angles!
henry_ting2
Thanks Donald. I'll check it out.
steve_barnett2
I wear specs with my M. I think a diopter is a very slow way of shooting, especially if the scene is changing rapidly. I'd spend more time taking my specs off and putting them on again than pressing the shutter, not to mention missed shots.
ray .
Steve, I use the diopter for distance sight through the viewfinder, it's like having clear vision with no encumberance. Set on AE, I only need to then squintat the lens barrel to scale focus. ;)
karl_yik1
Specs, because I cant be bothered to take my glasses off when taking a shot.
michael_kastner
Specs; I AM bothered by taking my glasses off when taking a shot. My 0.72 is a good allrounder for me, 35 and 90.
bert_keuken2
Specs. Viewing the entire 35mm frame is impossible on my .72 M6 Classic. Can't be bothered to buy and use a diopter.
andy_piper2
I wear glasses - moderate prescription. I use .85x and .72x and can (and do) easily use the 35 frame in the .72x. No diopters. I can SEE the widest framelines (35 and 28) in each body - I just can't 'see' the picture over that wide an area most of the time. It's like looking at a 19" TV from a foot away. h._p.
Diopter lens - much more fun :-)
kajabbi
Specs. NO problem with either the M6s os M5s.The 28MM frame is a slight challenge(can see three side lines without moving my eye)but not at all discouraging.
travis1
specs. I have once tried cutting a piece from my old specs and stick it on the viewfinder . Didn't hold up.
christoph_frick1
Specs, about -6. M6TTL with 0.72 finder, this is still OK for me with the 35mm 'cron. Never tried contacts. If this laser treatment wouldn't be as expensive I would consider it...
peter_white2
I use diopter lenses on my cameras when possible. I suspect that the usefulness of diopter lenses is determined by how much correction you need. I'm nearsighted and my right eye needs -1.75 correction. That's rather mild and I can see reasonably well without my glasses. So when shooting I can keep my glasses in my pocket with no ill effects. If I needed a stronger prescription, I suspect I would have to keep glasses on, in which case I would use contact lenses. PJW
john_boyle3
Specs. Use M2 and M4 with 35mm. No problem and no diopter.
doug_nelson1
I like the CL because I can see the big 40 frames with glasses. I dislike using an external finder to shoot with a 28, because I have not yet seen an eyeglasses-friendly external finder. For you 28 fans, I can see the entire 28 frame on a Minolta CLE with glasses.
Niels - NHSN
Specs. Even when I rest my glasses on the eyepiece I can only barely see the 35mm frame (M4 (0.72)). Niels
chandos_michael_brown
Specs. Not ideal, but I'm used to it.
Rob F.
Contact lenses. I can see the whole 28mm frame just fine with a .72. With glasses, I can see the 35mm frame well enough.

lee_shively
Spectacles. Diopter corrective eyepieces are guaranteed to cause you to lose your eyeglasses somewhere.
jay_.
I wear progressive-focal lenses and so far do not use a diopter on the M, but I need between a +0.5 and +1.0 with an SLR in order to see with my distance (top part)Rx. On my Nikon F's I have to look through a lower (more +)place on my glasses because the diopters are not available in intermediate settings. That's why I use my EOS 1V for really critical work with long or fast glass, it has an adjustable diopter. The M's finder is set for a 2m virtual distance so so far I get away ok. I've got a +1 diopter and as soon as I feel I need it along with my glasses, I'll get more for my other bodies.
jake_tauber
Specs. I couldn't see my camera without them.
markrinella
LASIK because glasses didn't work well for me with the 35mm and 28mm framelines and the diopters did not correct for my astigmatism.
