Film Camera Week for Nov. 24

Recommended Posts

I've not done much shooting as of late. Very busy but the Yashica Minister D I dug out of the mothballs has been asking for exercise. Not sure I have even runs any film through it before. Nice camera with a reasonably clear and definded viewfinder/rangefinder patch. The locked shutter speed/ aperture is a bit frustrating. Anyway just test shots around the house. Film was Kentmere 400 rated at 400 and developed in HC110 1-50 for 7 minutes.

Some from a  Praktica BC1 with the Pentacon Prakticar PB 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5 lens. The film was Arista EDU Ultra 100 developed in Spur Acurol-N . The Praktica B series are great cameras and I really don't exercise them enough.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Just finished the feast, so post a few photos before dozing off. Recently I tried a new kind of color film, Kodak Aerocolor 2460, re-spooled into 120 rolls by Reflx Labs. Hasselblad 500C, Planar 80/2.8, Bellini C41 home processed.

I usually do not shoot film for color but damn those shades of blue and reds on Blue Drinking Fountain are superb.

Hello one and all.. featuring one of my Contax S derivatives this time. I've had this a very long time now. It was given to me by an East Gwerman frined ,,,1995?...I patched the curtains.. a couple of times, but occasionally. I will still get some surprises. This is the " Perntacom FM" variiation.  The "F" is the one with the integrated  lever to act on the aperture pin on (most??) M42 lenses. The "M" (Messung) implies an improved focus screen with a split-level rangefinder. I have plans to do some subterfuge with nameplaters... I will make a post about that in the future...stand-by.

I am using the period correct 50mm Tessar. This is the one with a spring loaded aperture pre-select. I really like the renedring and the formula for this Tessar period.  My exemplar, like many, has/had an extremely stiff focus. There were marks where someone used  a pair of pliers. I tore down the lens and fixed the focus, but the re-assembly isn't quite right. The "stop" is beyond infinity... but with WYSIWYG ... it works Ok.  The usual APX100 in D76 1:1.. Straight scans (with all the dust dirt and scratches included.)

A convolut of East and West ... There's on more Contax D.. not shown. (I seem to often have  three-of a kind...

I seemed to have worked out the bugs in my workflow for using my 3x4 RB Graflex series D. I was having intermittent light leak issues previously, and I'm cutting down aerial roll film for it. The light leak issues were traced to the spare Paterson tank I was storing the cut film in. I was just using the tank with the rubber lid. Turns out, without the funnel and spindle, it isn't fully light tight, especially to infrared light, and the films I am using have extended red sensitivity. Ended up bagging my film in a light proof bag and then putting it in the tank eliminated my issues.

I've also been experimenting with a 5" by 100' roll of Fortepan 400 by cutting it down to 3.25"x4.25". Despite being 20 years expired, I'm getting quite good results with it. The exposure latitude seems quite wide, I can shoot from an EI of 50 to 200 without noticing any significant change in the negatives.
