Some of the pictures uploaded in threads appear only as blue links, others appear as pictures. Why?

Birgit,

<P>

It is because there are a couple different ways that you can utilize the system to include photos with your postings. You can either include your photo with an HTML link like the following:

<P>

<A HREF="http://www.photo.net/photo/497242">my sunset photo</A>

<P>

To use this method while posting a photo you type the following in your message where you would like the link to occur...<P>

< A HREF="http://www.photo.net/photo/497242" > my sunset photo < /A >

<P>

and make sure and choose HTML as the message type where it says: The above text is: <select name=html_p>

<option value=f>Plain Text

<option value=t>HTML

</select>

<P>

<B>OR</B> <P>You can type your message as you normally would hit the submit button and then before confirming your message choose to attach it with the box provided (see below).

<P><CENTER>

<table border="0" align="center">

<TR><TD align="center">

<A HREF="http://www.therealnikon.com/images/confirm_lg.jpg">

<IMG SRC="http://www.therealnikon.com/images/confirm_sm.jpg"></A>

</TD></TR>

<TR><TD align="center">

(click photo to enlarge)

</TD></TR>

</TABLE></CENTER>

<P>

In this form you select the photo you would like to upload with the browse button or type it and the caption info in by hand (the green text).

Hope this helps,

There's another thing you should be aware of: even if you use the second method Carl mentioned (using the photo.net-provided form to attach an image after you've posted a message), if the image is too big, it will appear only as a link to the image, not as the image itself. "Too big" is more than 512 pixels in width. The purpose of this is to ensure that thread pages that people have posted images to will not take too long to load.
