Equipment forums reorganized comment

The new equipment forum organization was probably done with well meaning intent, seems to add an extra layer and could be thought out by someone more experienced with cameras and maufacturers. I will point out a few issues,

Canon EOS makes/made Film, DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras

Nikon makes/made Film, DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras

Sony makes/made DSLR and Mirrorless

Just and observation.Screenshot_20230124_102528_Chrome.jpg.6115dd6443e7867314c8660557377d49.jpg

In the case of Canon, they had the FD mount in the earlier, manual-focus days for film SLRs. In 1987 at the dawn of the AF era, Canon switched to the EF mount for AF film SLRs and that continued into the digital SLR era, including the mostly compatible EF-S lenses for APS-C sensors. (EF-S lenses cannot be used on full-frame bodies.) With mirrorless, Canon started with the EF-M mount for APS-C bodies in 2012 and then transitioned to the RF mount in 2018 for full-35mm-frame mirrorless and now also includes APS-C.

In other words, under the EOS (Electro-Optical System) umbrella, there are three separate EF, EF-M and RF mounts that I would classify as incompatible.

The Forum is Canon EOS, the new Canon R5 mirrorless is an EOS R5,

This image is a screen shot capture from Canons website  note the name of the camera. EOS R5 is written right on the Camera. Canon EOS covers the film EOS DSLR EOS and Mirrorless EOS

Let's consider this.  Take a look at these current PN statistics:

https://www.similarweb.com/website/photo.net/competitors/

We are nothing today in terms of internet ranking.  What comment does anyone have over being a global rank of 108,122 with total 120 day visits of 686K, with a bounce rate of 75%?

Not something with the heritage of PN to boast about.

For too many years and too many migrations, the category forums on PN have become buckets of everything.  Supposed technical forums have been consumed by daily and weekly photo contests.  The recent complaints over the reorganization of "Mirrorless" reflect habit--not proper forum or SEO indexing of our content.  Many things are simply a basket that "whatever" has been tossed into over the decades.

Administration has held off on further reconciliation.  We are now awaiting instruction or changes from Fiverr administration.

Stay tuned!
