jim_bielecki1
I just read over on Photrio that Canon repair tech, Ken Oikawa, has finally retired. A sad day for users of Canon FD and FL gear. Ken was a Canon repair tech who hung out his shingle when he retired from Canon years back. He was the go-to person for many of people in this group for Canon repairs and CLA's. I hope we can find a suitable replacement here in the U.S. Edited November 22, 2022 by jim_bielecki1 clarification
Bettendorf
That's sad to hear. He had CLA'd six bodies for me in 2010-11 to get my main users up to snuff. They are still going strong and I hope they outdo me.
steven_endo
Thanks for letting us know... 😞 I am finally settled in my new house and was planning to contact Mr. Oikawa... I found the thread in which the member posted about his retirement. He also said that he would post up the technician/company recommended by Mr. Oikawa. Eagerly awaiting that... za33photo
Yes time moves on. The Technician that I used to use has also retired and so far I have not found another. "Modern" Technicians are unable to work on mechanical camera's , in my point of view they have become nothing more than "parts replacers". Bummer 😞. jim_bielecki1
Again, from Photrio, Steve Sweringen is the repair tech that Ken Oikawa is recommending. His contact info: Steve Sweringen, Camera Clinic, 100 2nd Avenue NW Mandan, ND 58554, 775-829-2244 .
allen_engel
Has anyone used Steve Sweringen yet? I have a 24mm 1.4 that has internal issues. I had been meaning to contact Ken about repairing it, I guess I ran out of time for that. Allen

Dustin McAmera
At the top, you can click Forums, then scroll down and choose the Canon FD forum, then Choose the recent thread (called 'Canon T90 Reminder' ) Here's a direct link to the forum https://www.photo.net/forums/forum/14-canon-fd/ and this is the post I think: https://www.photo.net/forums/topic/525484-canon-t90-reminder/?do=findComment&comment=5761495 Edited December 20, 2022 by Dustin McAmera
danac
It's a bit scary to think that the A-1, my most treasured film camera will no longer have access to Oikawa-san's masterful attention. james_burnham1
I used Steve 10 years ago to fix a mount on a Canon FD 200 mm macro, and it's still working strong to this day. I think I need to send him a 500mm L series for a similar repair, not looking forward to the shipping costs.
gwhitegeog
Obviously, we all live in different parts of the world, but if anyone wants to know details of good repairers in London or Portugal, I can pass that information on... Gary
