stric1975
Hello, recently I noticed that the painted white dot on the shutter curtain of my 16 year old Leica MP is not so white anymore. In fact, it looks grayish (even dirty if you will). It also appears to have some fine horizontal scratches. The curtain has no holes, and I haven't noticed any issues with metering (latest rolls of film turned out fine). However, I am wondering if this should be concerning? Does it mean I might need a new shutter curtain soon? Any opinion or experience with something like this is welcome. Thanks.
Niels - NHSN
Without seeing the curtain it is difficult to have an opinion. The dot on my M6 always had a little texture since the beginning 35 years ago - I don't recall it has changed. It looks like this: If the exposure isn't off, then you don't have a problem. If off a little, I would just compensate on the iso-dial or dab a little matte flat flexible paint. I certainly would not have a shutter curtain replaced only for a little missing white paint.
