Neon

One of the problems is that the light range is so great. Short of some sort of HD approach (often appropriately called 'neon') this is difficult to accommodate. Besides, you have to decide what effect you want. There's really no "right" solution. Back in film days, I ended up using unfiltered daylight film for night work

 

For another thing, "white balance" is not on- I would want the colors of the neon, not some approximation of what it would look like in daylight.

 

Either of these shots is fine, but you have to work on varying the parameters for different results.
