rodeo_joe1
How about a smaller and more realistic volume of water and some controls? You could try box + rice vs box without rice vs open air, see how much water is left in each case, then write it up..... Nah! I'll leave that for you to waste your time with. ..and there is numerous type of rice here and the there is a relative big difference how good/bad they absorb water. I don't doubt that, but the Internet meme usually doesn't specify any particular type of rice. I used Basmati if that has any bearing on things. glen_h
(snip on phones and rice) I'm pretty sure that if my phone got soaked I wouldn't mess about with bags of rice and tupperware. I'd want to extract the water by some far quicker and more reliable method. A vacuum or partial-vacuum would be my first choice. There might be some parts of phones not designed for a vacuum. For one, I am not sure about the LCD screen itself. Ohterwise, taking out the battery is a good idea, for ones that allow it. That reduces electrolysis on wet wiring. As for rice, the usual phone will have a lot less than 100ml of water, so if the rice can still absorb its 1g or so, that is still good. But yes, a real dessicant is probably better, but many have rice easily available, and dessicant not so much. -- glen
