tomspielman
Most of what I do ends up on the 'net but I still like to get better quality than what's necessary for that. As an example, say I shoot a product for my employer, who puts it on the web site. Great. Then they say, "Oh, that looks good, lets make a 6' wide print for a show booth." Or, maybe I shoot some family stuff that goes on Facebook. Everybody likes it and then somebody asks for an 11 x 14 print. You can always reduce quality but it's near impossible to increase it. That's a good point. You never know for sure what you might want a larger print of. In terms of cost, yes 120 film is more expensive than 35mm but since it is just hobby for me, what I spend on 120 in a year pales in comparison to what my daughter spends on Starbucks. And both 35mm and 120 are much more expensive than digital which on a per shot basis is nearly free. It seems like a fair number of people who shoot medium format regularly have a stash of film in their freezers that they bought pretty cheaply.
