This is why I've been saving all those USB cables over the years.

Just don't walk into your bank wearing that!

All the banks near me are closed until further notice, and you can't get through on the phone. I've gotten into the Foyer where the ATM is wearing my mask, guess the ATM is getting photos of a lot of masked people. (And there is my photography angle.) ;)

Now I'm confused. When I saw NL I assumed it was the Canadian province of Newfoundland & Labrador. And this is now in Europe?

NL = NetherLands.

In Europe they use their common country names and abbreviate them. We in the USA know NL as Holland, but the country name is

(The?) Netherlands AKA NL

Germany is Deutschland AKA DE

Spain is Espana AKA ES

If you don't know the country's name as called by its citizens, it's no doubt confusing.

Meanwhile...

I have always sort of snickered at folks wearing facemasks in public, as seen in some countries "out east". Well I suppose there are many reasons for this but I would never have seen myself wearing one at all, much less grocery shopping in one. Until now. At a time of a global pandemic the likes of which we've never seen, it just makes sense to make some attempt to do "socially responsible" things. Which includes, as it happens, wearing a facemark.

Of course being "socially responsible" here (in the U.S.) isn't normally our thing. SO it's really hard for some folks to wrap their heads around the concept. One big stepping stone for people, is the obvious (well to me anyway) connotation of that *other* word which contains the letters S, O, C, I, A,& L and ends in "ism". Which, for those not familiar with U.S.politics, is one of the single most feared and reviled concepts ever known. Thus, "socially responsible" smacks of "socialISM", and folks just aren't going for that, even under threat of death. On "another" forum somewhere on the internet, I and a bunch of friends (along with some folks we don't know) were talking about this some weeks back and one gentleman who I know rather well, put it like this: "I ain't working on no plantation, and the man ain't gonna tell ME what to do".

Literally. Direct quote, his words.

He & tens of thousands of his ilk are currently storming U.S. state capitol buildings, demanding..... something.

*sigh*.

My wife is a full-time hobbyist/seamstress/knitter so she's pivoted to cranking out masks for anyone that wants them. I'm pretty much used to putting one on for stores now, but limiting that to once-per-week at most. I posted on another thread here that I've used this time to finish a hobby room we added to the garage when we renovated 4+ years ago, and moved most of my photography stuff there. My office desk in the house is now full-time, 8-hours-a-day work space with Zoom being on at least half time. It feel weird going down to the kitchen after a few hours, like I'm going to a different place completely.

We will get through this, but there will be long-term impacts that I hope we learn from.

1764530_masks1wm.thumb.jpg.0b47ab58d1d2254019da4072e3a4a1a0.jpg Cute masks to be socially consciencious. Luckily I love to sew, and had quilting fabric around. I live about 20 miles east of NYC, My county has, as of today, has 30,677 Covid 19 positive cases, 1329 deaths. My adult kids are 1, out of work, 2. taking a personal leave of absence to keep her children safe. When I go out to get food I wear a mask and gloves. I do not want to bring this home. I haven't seen my grandsons in 6 weeks and that hurts. If I make someone smile about my silly masks then I've done a good thing. Wearing the mask to give others a sense of safety (since I do not have the virus), but not everyone is doing it. I remain an optomist, that we will come through this and intelligent minds will prevail and guide us. I hope my photo community stays safe, but quite a few of them have had losses.

How the hell would you know?

Anyway, give yourself a warning for making obnoxious political statements on PN and then peddle your crap somewhere else.

Your attitude tells the tale. File a complaint - we've been here before. I haven't ever been banned.

BTW - one case no deaths in my county and your rules matter to me?

Demanding the inalienable rights guaranteed to U.S. citizens under the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Puffery around a not so deadly disease just isn't justification for loss of freedom.

Sure seems like an example of inappropriate non photo related political posting that others get called out for on pn...

Should we all start posting our counter viewpoints?

So when you get provoked the door opens on pn to swing away. Not sure what the guidelines for political discussions are around here. And who gets to judge factual vs propaganda? or hypocrisy.. We all are capable of judging that for ourselves even when contrary to another. I had the reinforced impression that those discussions were inappropriate here.

Response to provocation, actual factual conditions vs. propaganda - go for it.

William, I think some of us already understood that and the attempt was made to clarify the appropriateness of this very discussion with a moderator. As you can see, the moderator not only willingly participated but encouraged the rest of us to "go for it" in response to him.

Thanks for your comment, which seems to be in keeping with traditional PN policy and by which I will abide.

I'll acknowledge my own part in this, as I posted what I thought were somewhat vaguely political comments, so I guess I kicked the door open.

Apologies to all parties.

I'll stick to the subject matter.

Stay safe, wherever you are.

... well ... there are many personal stresses in the world at the moment, it would silly to not appreciate that as a fact, and the comments about the above 'moderator comment' are understood and also appreciated, but, comments about Moderation are also not permitted on threads, so the best way to show understanding is to get back to something resembling a Photography based Conversation.

Thanks.

On that note, let me say that focusing my cameras is more challenging lately- because breathing behind my FACE MASK fogs my glasses!

LOL, 1st world problems, eh?
