howardstanbury Posted January 31, 2016 Share Posted January 31, 2016
Oxford's newest grand building opened to the public yesterday, and so lots of us took our chance to get inside and see this distinctive building (the Blavatnik School of Government) from the inside. I've posted pictures of the exterior before, so this is a little different.

Also different is that I am using a new-to-me Sony DSC-R1, a classic bridge-type camera from about 10 years ago. Not so vintage as some cameras that have been used in these parts, but fun to try out with its Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens. The sensor is close to APS-C size and is of the same vintage as my old A100. The R1 also shoots RAW and these pictures were processed from RAW files in Lightroom.

<a title="Light well interior / Blavatnik" href=" data-flickr-embed="true">

^ Light well interior

<a title="Observers" href=" data-flickr-embed="true">

^ Observers

<a title="Photographer" href=" data-flickr-embed="true">

^ Photographer

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
randy_cooprider1 Posted January 31, 2016 Share Posted January 31, 2016
I checked out the Sony DSC-R1 on Dpreview and they gave it a "highly recommended" based on the lens quality and value for price. On the 700 pixel images, lens quality is really hard to discern so what do you think about it when you pixel peep? Your posted pics look fine and I am assuming you are not the photographer on the floor [8-).

Played with the hand held twilight mode while my tire was being fixed. The scene was really badly lit but the Nex 3 pulled it out.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
randy_cooprider1 Posted January 31, 2016 Share Posted January 31, 2016 Another at the repair shop.The repair man was moving nut the effect doesn't overpower the image.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
howardstanbury Posted January 31, 2016 Author Share Posted January 31, 2016
I like the workshop photos, Randy.

I made a 100% crop of the second photo - I'm quite impressed for a camera that cost me about one-tenth of the price new.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
randy_cooprider1 Posted January 31, 2016 Share Posted January 31, 2016
That looks very good for a 100% crop.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
riffeym Posted January 31, 2016 Share Posted January 31, 2016
Hello all! Howard, I must say that I enjoyed that last image of you on the floor! You must have gotten some looks and I'll assume the picture of the observers proves that! Probably thought you were daft...

I'm posting some pictures "in memorial" to my recently departed Sony A300. I just hope the new owners treat her well. All of the following pictures were shot with the A300 and the Sony AF DT 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 (D) lens

Mike :D
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
howardstanbury Posted January 31, 2016 Author Share Posted January 31, 2016
Thanks Mike. I should have taken the opportunity to deny it was me earlier ... I did take the photo though!

American vintage cars look impossibly exotic compared with British alternatives of similar vintage. Could that first car be an import though?
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
riffeym Posted January 31, 2016 Share Posted January 31, 2016
Ahhhh...so it wasn't you after all, my apologies! LOL! I do have to give the man credit though, he's not afraid to get different angles for his photographs...

As per your question Howard, the car is a home built affair based on a heavily modified model A roadster body and frame with much custom metal work. The engine is a Ford flathead V8 that has been "massaged" to increase the horsepower.

Mike :D
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
randy_cooprider1 Posted February 1, 2016 Share Posted February 1, 2016
Michael, a distant relative had a 1956 Crown Victoria with the transparent roof. I thought that was the best car I had ever seen and I still like the styling.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
riffeym Posted February 1, 2016 Share Posted February 1, 2016
Hi Randy! Unless I miss my guess, I believe that particular car was known as the Crown Vic Skyliner. Yes, it was/is a gorgeous car,

Mike :D
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mukul_dube Posted February 2, 2016 Share Posted February 2, 2016
Impressed by the crop, Howard.
This is half of the frame I got at closest focus. Shows how small the pink chap is.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
