christopher_a._junker1
This lens came to me mounted on an M3 that had been in a closet for 30+ years. Very stiff focusing, but the lens is clean. How does it compare to the previous Elmar 90 and for this lens, what is the correct lens hood?
SCL
I owned this lens for a few years. It has a coated lens whereas the previous one didn't, so optical performance is improved somewhat, with best performance, in my usage, at f11, although I usually used it at f8. My recollection is that the correct lens hood is 12575N, the same one used on the 2.8/90 and 4/135. The weakness of the lens, IMHO, is that when fully extended - due primarily to age, is that sometimes you get a little wobbly when locked into position.
Jochen_S
Confirming hood # 12575; my current Makro Elmar came with that one and it does also fit on the old 135mm Elmar.
AFAIK you shouldn't collapse your lens on a digital body and Leica don't give information about maybe possible simple updates like "just put a 5mm broad zip tie behind your lens head".
james_elwing
It's the same as the solid Elmar f4 90mm from 1954, optics bumped up a little by slight changes and coating from the 1930's Elmar. Glad it's clean. It's a bit heavy. Yes, same hood as for the 135 f4.5 Hektor M, 135 f4 Elmar M, etc.
Brian1664876441
Look for haze behind the front element, very easily removed and cleaned. One of my favorite lenses, use on the M9 and M Monochrom. Do not collapse it on a digital M.I find the uncoated 9cm F4 Elmar has too-low contrast for the M Monochrom.
