knut_schwinzer
Just did some night shots in A mode (that is, in my case, 32 seconds, it won't do longer exposures)
The last one that turned out properly was this one:

knut_schwinzer
But the next shot turned out like this:

knut_schwinzer
So I tried again the following morning, short shutter speeds, interesting:

knut_schwinzer
I looked in the archives but did not find anything but high iso/long exposure slight banding. Any idea anybody? Sensor gone? And another one:

JosvanEekelen
Looks like data corruption. I had this once with a failing harddisk. Can be in camera or further down the digital path. Check wiring/usb cables, card reader, card, etc. How do the pictures show on the camera's screen?
knut_schwinzer
Thanks Jos, looks exactly the same on the rear LCD. Took out battery and SD, inserted them again, changed SD card, but problem persists. No matter if I shoot JPEG, DNG or combined.
JosvanEekelen
Looks like an internal camera problem then. Can you reset the M9? Otherwise it's a trip back to Leica.
Robin Smith
Try a new card. Robin Smith

Richard Williams
Keep on shooting and make this your signature style? I really like the last one! Are all your cards the same type? (I think there were some file corruption issues with certain Sandisk cards). Do you have the latest firmware? Otherwise, what Jos said.
Gus Lazzari

"Looks like data corruption" Jos van E.

I agree, but my focus would be on the flex coming directly off of the sensor to its pressure connector on the main PCB (Contact issue).
Alex_Es
It could be the sensor. Leica twice replaced my sensor and there. Seemed nothing wrong with it. This was after I took it in to Leica Kyoto for routine sensor cleaning. Leica did both replacements for free.
Karim Ghantous
I agree with Jos etc: it definitely looks like a physical issue, and not a data corruption issue.
Uhooru
Well, it seems it has to be either sensor. I would guess that something burned out on the long exposure.

james_elwing
I have done a lot of long exposures without mishap. It's a bit scary, Knut, for those of us with this camera. You will let us know how you fare? Good luck
knut_schwinzer
Be reassured, James, until now we have only suppositions. The M9 is packed up waiting on pick up.
Wetzlar will tell, I will report here. And yes, these are the pleiades, no sensor smudge;)

Brian1664876441
Does the camera work correctly when shooting regular exposures? Remember that CCD's get hot as they are operating. A heat related issue on the sensor, or within the electronics, is likely to occur on a long exposure.
