charlie lemay
Thanks Skeeter. This one really surprised me. I bought this lens for $90 and it renders in a magical way, just like the Komura 105mm f2. It was totally overcast, and I gave it 2 more stops than I would have for a Sunny Day Extreme roll, but processed it the same way for 4 1/2 minutes in Sprint Standard 1:9. I put the camera against a tree and used f2.8 at 1/60 (64 times the manufacturer's recommended exposure for the film, or ISO 1.5). The water is moving and the specular highlights and deeper shadows give it very long scale. I am going to be putting this technique on my web site next month. It makes it possible to shoot in full sun or in overcast conditions, when the subject has the right kind of specular highlights, on the same roll without using a meter. I first did this in 1988, but did not pursue it further. Now I see it as a breakthrough and love the results I'm getting.
