matthew_vortex
A bargain Electro 35 GSN has turned me on to Yashica RFs. I've also gotten a GT, a Lynx 14, and a Minister D. I've finished a roll in the Lynx, but haven't developed yet. The GSN and GT lives up to their reputation/hype. However, the Minister D was AMAZING. Super sharp and contrasty. Plus a little smaller than the others! Now I usually meter with a handheld, but the Minister D is so much a favorite that I want to get it to 100%, and a non functioning LM is the only tginger wrong. Problem is, I can't find anything beyond the users manual. No repair manual. Not even light meter related repair threads or sites. I've cleaned the battery compartment and all the wires look to be good. A few continuity checks didn't show any problems. I'm just a little confused by the 3 wires behind the CdS cell. Also, it appears that the camera has a positive common? Can anyone help me out with repair manual, schematics, or advice? Thanks in advance. chuck_foreman1
Hi Matthew.. I've often heard reference to the "pad of death" Terre was a reference about it'S regularity among specific models on Yashica Guy's site ( http://www.yashica-guy.com/document/lynxfix.html ) and There is a step by step for another Yashica model ( http://elekm.net/pages/cameras/repair_pad_of_death.htm ) that addresses this problem too. I saw a video about thios just now .. so search Yashica "pad of death" Sorry so macabre
matthew_vortex
Thanks for the responses, folks. Stephen: If either one of us invents a time machine, let's agree to advise Yashica Marketing Department to not put 35 in the name of every camera they make, rendering it almost "ungoogleable." I did check the 35 out, and it is probably on the shortlist. Also ran across a sweet deal on a 5000 while looking for it on the auction site. So your response was helpful in two ways! Tony: That comes as no surprise. I have a (probably irrational ) tendency to avoid selenium if I have a CdS alternative. But the Ministers are definitely the sleepers that you see people asking about after they get the RF bug. Chuck: Thanks, but the Minister is an uncoupled meter, so no POD issues here. Have faced them on some Electro 35 G**, and I have to +1 the "through the top/front" method. I've got a roll going through it right now, but once I'm done (16 frames of Ektar 100 and a pleasant Sunday forecast) I'll open her back up and get a little more serious about generating a schematic and troubleshooting. Will share.
