oli_sones
Hi all,
My first post on here although I've been reading for a while!
I've just purchased a Yashica Mat 124g but the camera did not come with a case - something which I'm finding very difficult to track down! I've found an LM case and was wondering if this would fit the 124g? I know they are quite similar in size etc, but didn't know if I was barking up the wrong tree!
Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks,
Oli

craig_shearman1
Trust me, you don't want a case on a Yashicamat. Like most camera-fitted cases, it is very awkward and cumbersome. Has to be removed everytime you change film. If you carry the camera around in the case, by the time you can open it up the photo opportunity can be lost -- that's why "ever-ready" cases that amateurs loved were called "never-ready" cases by experienced photographers. I would give you the case from my 124-G but I trashed it as soon as I got the camera. The owner of your 124-G probably did the same.
John Seaman
It's basically the same camera, probably the main difference is around the light meter. One nice thing about most Japanese TLR cases is that they are in two parts joined by press studs. Unlike Rollei cases I have had which are in one piece, so the front dangles downwards after you open it.

So you can use the camera in the lower part of the case only - which affords some protection, and perhaps limits the possibility of light leaks, while preserving instant access.

craig_shearman1
I carry my 124G on a standard camera strap just like a DSLR. When not in use it goes into one of my smaller Domke bags with flash, flash bracket, filters, accessory wide and tele lenses, film, etc.
SCL
I do what Craig does (altho I sold my 124G, I still have another MF TLR). In fact, I made my own quick release strap because I couldn't find one which met my needs exactly.
John Seaman
Thinking about it I probably would tend to use my older Yashicamat without the case. What you need to think about is the strap. The old leather straps are perished and need renewing with something reliable.
