tony_lockerbie
The other day when I was clearing out a camera bag, I found a camera that often accompanies me when I'm either shooting a Digi or a 5x4, a camera that takes up little space but produces good pictures.
That camera is my Retina 11c, and would win no beauty contest as it is somewhat worn and has patches of corrosion in places. The little Retina is a great user though, and folds up very neatly to fit into a camera bag that is otherwise fit to bust. Sometimes I will carry it around often, sometimes it will not see the light of day for months, but is always a reliable shooter with a really good lens.
I was wondering what cameras that others here tuck away, just to take the odd snap that you just can't bring yourself to use that iphone for.
Here is the camera in question.

Mike Gammill
My "always carry" is usually my Rollei B35. While I sometimes carry the heavier Rollei 35 and Rollei 35S, the B35's lightness makes a difference and its selenium cell meter means no battery required. I call it my "anti-digital". With lens collapsed it fits in a small belt case or in a jacket pocket.
Another sometimes "always carry" is a Konica C35V. I like it when I need to take a quick photo and don't have time to set exposure.

Mike Gammill
A color shot from a couple of years back. I used Fuji Superia 200. Selenium meter is still accurate so I followed meter recommendations.

JDMvW
Umm,
I confess that this is my "always with me" set up now. It used to be Rollei 35, long time ago.

You'all gonna ban me for life, aren't you? :(

tony_lockerbie
No. but you will be tied to a post and flogged :) I think that we all secretly have one of those...but I still like to have a CMC somewhere around....even if it is rarely used.
Mike, the little Rolleis are ideal of course, as are the various Olympus cameras...anyone using a half frame?
fred_haeseker
I use the IIIf my father left me, with the collapsible Elmar 50/3.5 or the Summaron 35/3.5. Fits nicely in a large jacket pocket.
Mike Gammill
The Olympus 35RC is another good traveler. No bigger than a C35 but offers full manual and shutter priority.
rick_drawbridge
I'll have to admit that the cameras that live in my glove compartment these days are no longer the Olympus Mju's of yesteryear, having been replaced by similarly nice little things such as Canon Powershots...Still, they're one step up on the gadget that the late great JDM used... If I'm dashing out and decide that some B&W 35mm might be appropriate, I'll most likely grab this Nikkormat FTn fitted with the 35-70mm Nikkor zoom f/3.3-4.5, one of the better "kit" zooms, in my estimation. The camera always has a load of film aboard and is housed in a small pouch, all ready to go. Sample pic on Arista 100 through PMK Pyro, camera pic from a dreaded Powershot...

James G. Dainis
Rick, nice Nikkormat. From the book it is on, I assume your are reading about the German raider Kormoron and HMAS Sidney? James G. Dainis
tony_lockerbie
Leica 111F is a good one to have, I don't use mine enough! Rick, the Nikkormat will not fit in my pocket, but a really good thing to have around.
James, that is Sydney...don't want to offend those Australians :)
dave_s
Tony mentioned the various Olympuses. Until recently, I carried the well-known Olympus Stylus Epic (mju ii), the one with the fixed 35/2.8 lens, and yes, I know it's not a CMC.

Excellent little camera-- small enough to be carried in a shirt pocket, and a good travel camera. My backcountry hiking setup was the Stylus Epic in the waistbelt pocket of my backpack, with my big camera (a medium format) in the backpack for when I wanted to do anything serious.

Unfortunately, while it excels in image quality, it fails in robustness, and after a few years of heavy (ab)use, the camera was leaking light so much it was time to retire it. I'm considering what its replacement will be, but until then I've been using the same solution as JDMvW.

Oly Stylus Epic, Portra 400
Mike Gammill
It's too bad that the Olympus XA is battery dependent, or I'd carry mine more often. That, of course, takes it out of the CMC category. I suppose the selenium-powered XA-1 might sqweak by, but it's limited to only ISO 100 and 400 film and programmed shutter/aperture from 1/30 at f4 to 1/250 at f22. Also, it is fixed focus. I may have to get mine out and give it a try.
CoryAmmerman
I actually don't have an every day camera, though I've got a few that would probably fit the bill. I've thought about picking one to keep in the car, but I've always been worried that the high temps during the spring and summer would damage the camera or the film.
glen_h
I also like the Nikkor 35-70. For many years, that was my favorite for usual family photography, such as pictures of the kids.
Last year, I bought the AF 35-70 at shopgoodwill for a very reasonable price.
I think under the seat, the camera stays close enough to outside temperature, except in the sunniest times, but it might not be so much of a problem.
-- glen
chuck_foreman1
Truth be told I always have a little digicam in my bag as commute to work.... as far as CMC go I tend to fall heavily on a relative small Voigtlaender 1000SR that is truly beat up. Until recently it had no case or strap and would fit in a jeans pocket uncomfortably. I would take this along with a MF like a Graflex or Ikonta folder just to have something else with more options. The 42mm Tessar is a sweet lens that is well..perfect. The RF is busted and the meter is no longer accurate but I still get really consistent results. I've posted this camera before. I recently saw a case for it without looking for one so for EUR 15,00 after 25 years I could splurge ... funny now that I have a case for it I'm not grabbing it so often... go figure!

Troll
For over 40 years I carried one Minox or another (IIIs, B, LX) in my pants pocket. Then went digital just after the turn of the century (Minolta xt, now Sony T100) in my shirt pocket.
