vale_surfer
I wanted to place a photograph on top of a scanned copy of a pen and ink sketch that I made long ago.
The sketch should remain slightly blurred in the background and the color photograph should be on top of the sketch.
How can I get this collage effect ? I don't have Elements and use an older version ( CS 5.1) of Photoshop.
Thanks.
ellis_vener_photography
You'll need to use layers. First create a duplicate layer of the background and apply a Gaussian blur filter to this layer. You might try adjusting its opacity. And then add the color image on top.
vale_surfer
Thanks, Ellis - I was able to place the picture on top of the blurred sketch.
I was trying to position the picture elsewhere on the canvas, move it around a bit. Haven't figured out how to yet.
peter_mounier
Click on the layer of the photo to make it the active layer. Then use the "Move Tool". It's the one at the top of the tool bar. Click and drag to where you want to position the photo.

After you move it into position, you can move it with the arrow keys to finesse it more precisely
