ian_humphrey
Hi
Where can I download a free user manual for the eos 7d camera and how exactly do I charge the battery. I have noticed that the charger flashes at different speeds ( not sure what this means ) and then eventually goes green, and when I eventually reinstrall the battery it shows 100% charge but recharge performance only shows 2 green lights and not 3. How much longer can I expect the battery to last. This is only the second charge I have given it in 18 months.
Any info would be very much appreciated
Ian

JosvanEekelen
Canon websites, US or other depending on the language you want. The manual has info on how to charge the battery and how to read out the battery status in camera.
dcstep
My 7D and battery are five-years old and the Recharge Performance has been one Red block for almost two-years. I'd guess that you've got years to go before you need to replace your battery.
Andy Collins
The number of times the charger flashes and the green performance lights on the camera are two different things. The charger flashes to show you the progress of the charge; 1 flash equals 0%, 2 flashes means that the battery is charged at around 50%, 3 flashes equals 75%, and green means that it's charged 100%. The bars on the camera indicate how well your battery is holding a charge, not how much your battery is charged. The battery may be charged 100% but may not be performing at 100%...that's what the bars on the camera indicate. Definitely find the manual! There is so much to learn about the 7D that is not particularly intuitive, but that will lessen the full experience of the 7D if you don't know it. It has a pretty steep learning curve but is an amazing camera once you learn more about it. Also check out David Busch's book that details using the 7D. It's even better than the manual.

Have you actually taken a picture with it yet?

Seriously though. The others who mentioned reading the manual are right on. There is a real education in the information you will get there. Perhaps you will find some inspiration in some of the great capabilities your camera has.

Mark Keefer
Roughly you can figure slow blinking green, it has a long ways to go to get charged, 3 rapid green blinks it is almost fully charged. Solid green and it is fully charged.

Read the manual for a more detailed explanation.

Cheers, Mark
ljwest
The bars on the LCD for each LP-E6 battery tell you the recharge performance of the battery, not the level of charge (that's the % listed).

Three green - battery is fine, 2 green - slightly degraded, and red - "Purchasing a new battery is recommended". I've had one on two green bars for a couple years, the other has been on one red bar close to a year now, and they both seem to still be working fine for me.

ali_baba2
if the battery is still new (meaning you havent used it a lot and just sat there), drain and recharge it a few times... they need to cycle a bit to start operating at full efficiency...
