How to Superimpose/Add: Logo/Watermark to Images

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,
I do a lot of photography for my business, and upload a lot of images to social media channels like Instagram.
It would really help us with branding/marketing if my photography had our logo when sharing pictures... but I'm not sure of a seamless and intuitive way to accomplish that goal without relying on software like Photoshop (which is far too robust and costly for our purposes). Since I do nearly 100% of our photography and uploading/sharing on the fly from an Android device.
The layering option would be easy I suppose, since that would basically be like superimposing our logo as a foreground on top of any photo, and we could position the logo/watermark anywhere on the image -- but I'm not sure of an app or mobile software solution that exists to allow me to do that untethered from a computer.
I can convert the logo to a transparent .png and even convert it to gray-scale so it wouldn't be distracting, I just need help with the ultimate implementation, without having to upload to Dropbox or Google Drive first, and then editing and re-saving, all to accomplish what I'd love to be able to do with the same device I took the picture with (phone/tablet: HTC ONE M8)
THANKS SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP!

Thanks for the replies.

Since Lightbox Mobile doesn't work with Android, does anyone else have any suggestions?
I was thinking about the layering aspect of what I'm trying to accomplish, and I remember an app for Android I used to use called "StickIt!" that allows you to create foreground and background images.
I wonder if this would be a solution (I remember trying it before, and was unable to get it to properly work for this purpose, but that was months ago and maybe they have updated it): HERE is the link on the Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motionone.stickit

googling 'watermark android app' pulled up several of them, some claim to be developed with instagram and facebook in mind. And not everything is in the google store, sometimes check the site of the developer, even if it shows up on iTunes during an internet search you might find the download of other version on the developer site. iWatermark for example covers different versions (which can be a good thing if you will find yourself using different OSs on phones, tablets etc)... AddWatermark would let you superimpose a watermark file, pick anchor points, opacity etc and can share watermarked files in batch... in addition to that you can use it to resize pics. But there are many others...
Like for every app you need to try several to find the one that fits your needs best
Alternatively you and place the watermark always in the same position there is such a thing as "canvas and drawables" of which several scripts for watermarking are floating on the net, with that android will place the watermark natively on the picture and you can use a script manager like Tasker to invoke the script when certain conditions are met. That obviously makes sense if you will run other custom scripts rather than loading a bunch of apps for different things, otherwise its still one extra app for one result

cant edit my post anymore: there are free versions of paid watermark apps, those will often apply their Ad to the pic too but they are good to try the app out before you buy so remember to filter for "free apps" once you narrow down your results... other apps could have been released for free for a bit to test them before being offered again as paid apps so a little internet search could pull the free version out

THANK YOU so much ali baba :)
I am certain I did a Google search last year looking for the same solution, but the choices were very slim and worse yet most of them didn't work - so it's VERY GOOD to know there has been some progress and more developers are putting forth effort!
I am going to look into these apps for sure, since Jeff's suggestion of Skitch didn't pan out (it was a VERY cool app though, and I was happy to become familiar with it). I don't mind paying for apps at all, I used to think that was crazy, but now if I find something I truly love and use often, $1-5 isn't a bad price to pay for enhanced functionality!
PS: Do you have a clear-cut or even slight preference in any of the apps you tried or mentioned above in your post, that would suit what I'm looking to accomplish?
PPS: Last question, but... is there a simple method of transforming my logo into something with a natively transparent background for use on photos as a watermark and for use on the web like our website header etc.? I'd like to retain image quality but make the white background transparent, I'm just not sure of the best method and whether I should use PNG, GIF, or something else!? THANKS!! :)

i dont use those apps so not in condition to give suggestions, but you can hear great things about one and hate it when you try it, thats why i was mentioning the free ones first, Sometimes one device wont handle an app well while another device will even if both have the same OS, more often than not the simplest the app is the more probability it will work flawlessly, check your needs and pick accordingly. Dont limit the search to "google store".
Tons of stuff can create images on trasparencies, MSPaint can do it too if theres nothing else... or you can use online services, picmonkey or Watermark.algid.net for example...Png btw

REALLY appreciate the great help ali/everyone,

I ordered the $2 AddWatermark app from the Google Play Store, looks very promising and has a MUCH better interface than the iWatermark app.

There was a workaround method to use the Stickit! app for adding a logo to pictures, but this seems more direct and useful (especially with the ability to adjust opacity).

PS: Is there a best-practice or method and file-extention (png, gif and so forth) to convert solid color unified background to a transparent type, for use as a logo and superimposing on images? THANKS!

depends on which software you use, how is the logo and what effect you want at the end... For any software you will likely find step-by-step tutorials online to do it anyways
Use a format that maintains the transparency information... as said
You mention to not have photoshop, you could try Gimp since is free ("color to alpha" command if you use that one)
