Using legacy lenses on Sony Alpha A7 / A7R

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I don't own any Sony cameras but I am getting a lot of enquiries from people who have the new full frame mirrorless cameras from Sony. They want to know if the existing lens adapters for the APS-C NEX cameras will work on the Alpha 7 or 7R and give full coverage of the larger sensor. My gut feeling is that they will not work but I would like confirmation from any of you that know for sure.

I've attached a picture of a current Leica M to NEX adapter as an example.

00cEMR-544133584.jpg.82d4b000518002c17ea5c206aef35324.jpg

The flange distance for NEX and A7 is the same because the mount spec is the same. Those adapters should be fine,

unless their shape is such that some of the light path is obscured causing a vignette. You couldn't say with 100% certainty

but I'd be 95% sure those are all good on an A7.
