jamie_robertson2
Hi folks,

I don't own any Sony cameras but I am getting a lot of enquiries from people who have the new full frame mirrorless cameras from Sony. They want to know if the existing lens adapters for the APS-C NEX cameras will work on the Alpha 7 or 7R and give full coverage of the larger sensor. My gut feeling is that they will not work but I would like confirmation from any of you that know for sure.

I've attached a picture of a current Leica M to NEX adapter as an example.

jamie_robertson2
And here's another example. This time a Canon FD - NEX adapter...

carbon_dragon
I'm guessing/hoping that unless the adapter has an APS-C plate cutout in the adapter as the Sony A mount adapters for the Nex have, they should work. But I don't know for sure.
jamie_robertson2
Thanks David. All the adapters I have seen have the full circular opening at the back. It is the flange distance that concerns me the most. I am wondering if the full frame cameras require the lens to be closer to the body.
bruce_rubenstein
From what I've read, NEX lenses can be directly attached to the A7's with the only downside being that it puts the 7 into a crop mode. So there doesn't seem to be an issue with flange distance.

andylynn
The flange distance for NEX and A7 is the same because the mount spec is the same. Those adapters should be fine, unless their shape is such that some of the light path is obscured causing a vignette. You couldn't say with 100% certainty but I'd be 95% sure those are all good on an A7.
