clemens_eulig
Does anyone have any experience with this infrared-film? I would like to try this out for portraits, but since I have to specially order this film, I would like to know a little bit more about it. AFAIK skin tones become very dark, when using IR-material, which is an effect I really like if it suitable for the motive but which I never reached with ordinary B/W-Films and filters. chris_eve
I tried one roll, not overly impressed, very similar to Ilford SFX ... if you're ordering, get some Maco 820 for more dramatic IR effects.
clemens_eulig
Is the Maco 820 easy to use? The website says something about inserting the 135 sized film in darkness, while the 750c can be handled like any other ordinary film...
chris_eve
I followed the manufacturer's instructions and loaded and unloaded the camera in complete darkness, after practicing a few times in daylight with my eyes closed and an "ordinary" cassette of film. I used a rangefinder Retina, so no chance of a stray fingernail damaging the shutter blinds in the dark. This also meant I had use of the viewfinder with the 87A filter fitted to the lens. I've not used Kodak IR film, so have no personal comparasions to make, but from what examples I've seen posted, I prefer the lack of blown-out highlights on the Maco film, the anti-halation dye really does seem to perform it's design purpose. oskar_ojala
Is the Maco 820 easy to use?
Yes, if you mean handling. I load it in darkness, but I'm not sure it's necessary. My plastic Paterson tank doesn't cause any fogging or other problems.
nige_buddy
I've loaded Maco 820n in shadow (udner trees facing away from sun) with no ill efects, also processed in a Paterson tank.
