mendel_leisk
Will this ever get fixed?

Pretty much every one of my (sporadic) postings hangs, and hangs. The drill now is to post to photo.net (well try to), then open a new browser tab, go elsewhere, keep an eye on the photo.net tab. Pretty much guaranteed it will hang, hang, finally return good ol' Gateway Timeout. Also, regardless of that message, if you go away and come back an hour later to check, your posting is infact ok.
Gup
Mine was just in triplicate! I had to go back in twice to edit and delete and that didn't go completely smoothly. At least by now everyone knows it isn't usually the fault of the poster.
jsc
Interesting. Does this happen every time for you? Every post?
bobatkins
Happened to me twice today (so far...). It's not every time but rarely does a day go by without me running into it. Then I have to go back and delete my duplicate posts.
William Kahn
Not today, but it does happen to me frequently. I've gotten to the point where I copy the text in case I have to redo the post. But I always exit PNet first and then recheck the thread to see if it's there. Sometimes, when I recheck the thread and my post isn't there, I'll re-enter it, only to find later that both posts are there. Frustrating...
Gup

Interesting. Does this happen every time for you? Every post?

Not every post, but quite often. It's been going on for a long time now. Sometimes it happens when posting an image into a thread, sometimes just text. It's been mentioned many times by many members over a long period of time now. Just check old threads for the duplicate posts.
Gup
Jin, go to the 'beginner forum' and check the posts from new member Stacey Long

camera dying? good-blownout-good

Her post shows up '6' times.
Wouter Willemse
What puzzles me is that I never ever had it happen to me.... seems to be mainly people from the US who suffer it, from my non-scientific browsing around.
I know this isn't exactly helping those who have this problem, but it could maybe help drill down to where the issue is, maybe.
MichaelChang
Gup, actually Stacy's subsequent posts of different pictures were successful but not her original post where the pictures failed to attach properly.

I noticed in my case that the timeout tends to occur around busy times of the day and rarely at off times where there is lower site traffic.
William Kahn
I've been thinking that the problem is not with the PNet server but somewhere upstream from there. Wouter's experience may be a clue...

Any subsequent postings, my rant above for example, go as smooth as buttered escargot.

FWIW, it was my attempt to post directly below in Unified View that was problematic. I think there's some other multi-posting attempts in there as well.
pnital
I don't think it is only US member, it happans to me a lot,and as was mentioned by William I copy and keep everything I write because of the same problem,. Every time I enter' my work space" and try to see comments given to my work it takes at least 3 long time out!s.and on the contrary when I see comments I have given, which gos perfectly smooth! ...I wrote about it several times, but it did not change!.

Wouter Willemse
OK, well, as said, my observation was just a very unscientific hanging around and seeing multiple posts happen.... For sure, I could be way off. But something about it itches...
I'm in the CET timezone; if I post during the evening (morning/lunchtime US), there is plenty traffic and plenty new posts - if traffic congestion causes the problem, then I should suffer the time-out problem those hours, I'd say. Pnina, being in a near similar timezone (1 or 2 hours difference?) should have an experience similar to mine. Instead, I see it happen for others during those hours, but only had a time-out once myself. Something doesn't entirely add up there, which is why I mentioned my observation. The US-thing was a wild guess only.
jsc
Is this timeout happening only when you attempt to post, or is it happening on occasion at any other time? (Other than entering workspace issues for people with a long history of activity, like Pnina... we're aware of that one).
I was under the impression that we were having site wide issues, but if people are seeing it mostly when trying to post, maybe it's a more localized issue. I've made a small change to posting, and would like to see if it has made any difference. Please, over the next few days, let me know if you see the issue again (and also if you don't!). If it does occur, it would be incredibly helpful if you could make a note of the time, and let me know in this thread that it happened, along with the message ID of the thread that you were trying to post so I can track down in the logs what occurred. The message ID is the 6 character string that appears at the end of every post URL; a link to the message that caused the error would provide that information as well.
mendel_leisk
It's typically happening with my first post, after an absence, then not on subsequent posting. Maybe after some time without posting the site's software has to reinitialize something, and that's what hangs? Grasping at straws.

Will keep an eye on it, per your instruction.
CoryAmmerman
I'm in the US, and it never happens to me. And I do mean never. I can't remember the last time I had a double post. And I always proofread my post after I originally submit it and sometimes have to hit the "update" button 2-3 time to make several corrections before I hit the final "confirm" button. I do see it happen a lot to other people though. Many times it's regular posters that you would think know the system by now. I'm using Firefox as my browser. Maybe that has something to do with it.

jsc
I guess the problem persists. I will keep working on it. Pnina, I just meant that we are aware of the problem with entering the workspace, and trying to find a solution. As opposed to the posting timeout, which is puzzling.
