enrique_flores
Hello:
I am back from Western NY State. Following the advice that some photonet members gave me about a month ago, my wife and I spent three days in the Finger Lakes area this past week. Particularly, we used Watkins Glen as center of operations and drove to several places around.
The weather cooperated nicely: days were cool but sunny. It was not until I was driving back to NY City that it started to rain.
Several things called my attention. First, the gorgeous colors of some flower trees which were in bloom: whites, yellows, pink, reddish. We do not see these colors in trees in the region of my country I live in. Second, despite being in May, large trees were still brownish and some without new leafs. It seemed spring had not come yet. Third, the very European style of the many churches of various religions that abound in the area. To me, because of their high pointy needles they resembled German churches.
Finally, we spent a lot of time in the various water falls in the area. We met a couple from Massachussets that were after the same. They were very well prepared with books and the like, and gave us good advice on the very best water falls nearby.
So, it was time very well spent. I will post some of the photos we took once I have the time to process them.
Again, my thanks to all of you people that advised me on this matter.
Enrique Flores

walter_degroot
I do not know where you lived before NY city.
but in many states , every turn of the road brings something interesting.
people are not so anxious to tear down and rebuild.
the NYC finger lakes region can be beautiful. but terrible in the winter.
I last went thru there in 1963. on our way to Rochester and Kodak..
we could in the summer still small a faint smell of grapes.
I have made other road trips and always enjoy the differences.
For us that time is long past. We should have traveled more.
One sad note , often we left Friday night and concentrated on getting somewhere and did not stop
" to smell the roses"
john_d17
I was hoping you would enjoy the area. I could see the weather was good for the few days you were there. I hope you post some photo's. Now you have been there I am sure you will return. The summers are wonderful around the lakes and the fall time in October is spectacular. We lived 62 years on Keuka Lake and sold out a couple of years ago. I miss the area and its beauty. It will always be home to me. http://johndoddato.blogspot.com/
