dave_lewis
Hello, I have a Hasselblad A12 back which is giving me problems and I'm looking for a little guidance and insight. It's from 1988 and mechanically gives me no problems. I purchased it used earlier this year. I just had some enlargements done and noticed a translucent strip that runs from top to bottom on the very right hand side of the print. It is the same width from top to bottom and on a 9x9 print is about a 1/4". The strip still shows everything on the print and negative. Going back over my contact sheets carefully, I notice it's been there the whole time. Is this a symptom of a bad light seal or something else? The line is there in nighttime and daytime shooting and doesn't seem to be any worse in sunny or overcast weather. Thanks for your help!
kevin_kolosky
Might be time to change out the felt light traps.
jeff_singer
Not sure what you mean by "translucent" on the print. A print can't be translcent that I know of, do you mean its white? If its translucient on the negative you would see a black strip on the print. If you had a print that was of an 18% grey card that filled the intire image, would the strip be white or black on the print? Funny thing is, today I did a print and noticed a dark strip from top to bottom on the far right. I looked back at other prints and have never seen it so I'm going to have to watch this. If I look close it is on the neg. Jeff
Robin Smith
Translucent means it transmits light, but presumably not as clearly as if the strip was not there - do you mean opaque? I guess too that you need a new felt trap - light is leaking in through the dark slide slit. Robin Smith
mixa
I have had the same problem. I found out the strip was a peice if film cut by the back's stainless steel blade. The strip gets stuck in the side, behind the blade frame.
