Frameline for a 40 mm lens on a M-9

The M9, along with many Leica RF models, has framelines that are most accurate at close distance--about 1 meter. This is to say, they are made a bit small, so that when you frame a shot at a greater distance, you get more in the picture than you saw in the finder. This means that for many of us, the 40mm lens can be a good match for the 35mm frameline, when shooting at distances much greater than minimum focus. So the 40mm could work very well with the 35mm frameline when shooting at, say, 10 or 12 feet or more.

Without any modification to the lens mount, the Nokton 40/1.4 will bring up the 50mm frameline. (It does on my MP.) Some people modify the mount so that it brings up 35mm frameline. I tape my frameline preview lever with gaffer tape to achieve the same thing.
