robin_sibson1
Gitzo Explorer. I have the earlier aluminium version. Difficult to imagine a better tripod for macro/close-up work, and it is fine as a normal tripod too.
virginia sustarsic
thanks, robin, i have been considering the explorer, and had seen some negative reviews, so it's good to hear from you, as you find it difficult to imagine a better tripod for what i'm doing, and that's encouraging, thanks, virginia
pmind
I use a Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 in the field (though the 4 section leg might be better). However, I mostly use the 65mm in the studio on an Mannfrotto 3021BPRO aluminum tripod. I prefer the extra mass for stability. You could always add some ballast weight to the carbon tripod, but I guess that sort of defeats the purpose.
gmazza
I use a benro C - 297 for outdoor work, good for stacking oimages of flowers and other static subjects.

But most of my insect shoots with MP-E are with flash and handheld
