Happy Thursday everyone! Hope everyone is doing well and staying warm through these cold winter months. As discussed in last week's thread, it seems our numbers are down despite a new three photo limit. Hopefully the cold weather is to blame and numbers will rise again with the temperatures in the spring. Until then, thanks to the Canon faithful to get us through the dead of winter. Let's see those photos.

00bKAV-518429584.jpg.6c811da2aafed5c658aabf6a7e7d3a15.jpg

Went to a bird research operation in western Marin County, CA a couple of weeks ago. They capture wild birds using some twenty mist nets they have placed nearby in the scrub and trees. Here is a Townsend’s Warbler (upside down) we found caught in one of their nets. The birds are not injured in this process.

00bKAc-518433584.jpg.ad32f1d308b8d2e4cb141a526388d543.jpg

Once captured they take them back to their office and band them, if they are not already banded, then check for age, sex, wing size and weight. All this is recorded and entered into a database. In January they had caught some 19 different species so far, including four Sharp-shinned Hawks.

00bKAd-518433684.jpg.073c171ef1ac396df52608e381802dea.jpg
