steve_thompson9
. I just spent some time reviewing the Macro Moments contest. It appears the voters tended to get tired and simply stopped reviewing the entire group. Some great photos past a particular point received no votes at all. Was the voting possibly affected by the position in the posting? It is hard to believe that some of those at the bottom of the bunch received no votes at all. If this is the case, perhaps the future contest could be set in "heats". Place them in groups of 10 or 20. Then any voter is requested to consider the entire” heat” while voting. If the voter should tire at some point then the untouched “heats” are not affected by their position of posting. Each heat is judged in relevance to the number of votes cast for that particular heat. Then the winners of the individual heats could be reposted for the finals. I am responding in an unbiased condition. I did not have anything entered. I do realize that this final tally was listed in the order of the number of votes cast. However, I just couldn't understand why some great shots were voteless
sgust
I agree. Seems like the images at the top of the page were getting all the attention and the first to submit rarely got looked at. Something alone Steve's suggestion to give all images similar opportunity for being viewed seems like it would yield better results.
joshroot
It is a reasonable question to ask. The display defaults to either FB likes or votes, I can't remember which. So once some of the photos make it to the top, they are likely to stay at the top, if your theory is correct.

There are a number of different things we could look at to fix it. The "heats" aspect is kind of interesting. But I don't think we yet have the critical mass of voters to make that happen successfully. But it's something to think about for the future.

I think for the moment, I will consider reducing to one the number of submissions allowed per user per contest. Then also ask Jin to see if a random display can be the default, with other sorting criteria being options.
miragephotography
I do think, random displayed shot would be the best option.
Advantages :
Opposite to the heat method, no need for rounds plus a final
Every photograph has the chance to be on the top of the list, well known photographs as well as brand new amateurs
No need to have a critical mass of submission / voters
