bob_stevens3
Just bought a F100 after a gap with no Nikons (last a 90s). What would those with F100 experience suggest I cinsider as "necessary" custom function settings? Thanx! Bob Stevens.
hudsonphotos
The F100 is my favorite camera (and I own a F5 and N90s). Did you get the grip for it? I've never changed the custom settings on mine.
pmj
These are my custom settings: <br>c3 - 1, bracketing: negative to positive <br>c16 - 2, self timer: 2 seconds <br>c21 - 1, ae-l/af-l button: locks exposure only <br>c22 - 1, set aperture using ring on lens (instead of wheel on camera) <p> I know you didn't ask, but I thought I should mention that I like the [grabs camera, checks] DK-6 rubber eyecup. larry n.
Subject: Response to F100 Most of them are a matter of personal choice. I carry the cheat sheet around with me. Here is what I find useful: 1: automatic film rewind at end of film roll 9: set it to disabled. otherwise it can screw you up in rare situations 13: easy exposure compensation 15: time delay for meter-switch off: 8 sec 4, 7 and 21 are interrelated. I leave them as they are for action shots. For landscape work, I might set 4 to disabled and 21 to 3 (AE lock remains). of course you'll be chaning 16 (delay time for self-timer) all of the time. john_stockdale2
Not "necessary". It depends on you. My settings: setting #2 changed to 1/2 stops, not 1/3 stops. Then it is quicker to alter shutter speed or aperture, and the bar graph in the viewfinder shows a wider range if you want to spot meter a face at, say, zone 6+1/2. setting #4 to disable autofocus on the shutter release. If I do a series of frames with the subject off centre, I want to avoid the constant refocussing for each frame. Set Contuous Servo AF, otherwise an off centre subject will prevent the shutter from firing. setting #21 to 3, to hold exposure setting when you press the AE-L/AF-L button. larry n.
If you set setting #2 to 1/2 stops for ease of changing apertures, does the camera than work internally in 1/2 stops for setting shutter speed (in aperture priority mode)?
lyle_waisman
My settings (that differ from default):<BR> <BR> <B> #1</B>: Auto rewind on<BR> <B> #2</B>: Exposure steps - set to 1/2 instead of 1/3<BR> <B> #3</B>: Bracketing order - set from -/correct/+, instead of correct/-/+<BR> <B> #4</B>: AF with shutter button - need to press AF button to auto focus<BR> <B> #6</B>: Focus select pad adjustment<BR> <B> #8</B>: Auto film loading<BR> <B>#13</B>: Secondary dial is exposure compensation<BR> <BR> These are the ones I can remember without the camera in front of me. john_stockdale2
Naji, yes it operates in 1/2 stop increments instead of 1/3 stop. I suppose it's theoretically less accurate, but the difference is only 1/6 stop. In my work that's not much, but for the very best chrome work maybe it would be an issue
craig_bridge
22 & 13: For somebody who has been used to setting the aperture on the lens, this frees up the rear command dial and putting fast exposure compensation their instead makes sense to me. david_h._hartman
On PC(s) right click and "Save as target." Rename the file before saving. The extention should be htm or html. Here is one for the F5...

charlie_boy
4 Autofocus activated when shutter release button lightly pressed is set to off so I can focus once and not worry about the camera skipping out of focus (I do a lot of candid stuff) 12 Switching Command Dial operations. All my other cameras have had the shutter dial at the front. I'm used to it. 21 AE-L / AF-L button options. Set to 3 to hold exposure with one press. It leaves my thumb free to focus. 22 Aperture setting with lens aperture ring. This seems more natural than a dial to me. I am used to manual SLRs. It is also much quicker to spin.
