Nikon D7000 and Transcend 128GB

In a special offer i purchased 2 128GB SDXC cards. The cards work fine in my Nikon V1, but the Nikon D7000 does not accept this card, although the Transcend website advises this card for D7000.
I would be interested to hear from others using 128GB cards and experiences with Nikon D7000.

Of all the cards I have used Transcend is the only company who's cards have consistently given me problems.

When I contacted customer service they had me send them the card for testing. Two weeks later I get it back with a "there is nothing wrong with this card it must be your camera" note. I still have the card and it acts the same in all of my cameras. It records partial frames randomly.

Note that the D7000 manual, p. 319, doesn't consider any Transcend cards suitable. While the manuals don't get updated for new cards and often fail to include some newer cards, the absence of a manufacturer from Nikon's list of approved cards cab be a bad sign.

Like Michael, Transcend cards are the only ones that have consistently given me trouble.

My only experience with Transcend cards are a pair of SDHC 8GB Ultimate in a Nikon V1. It's been only a week but so far, so good, no problems.

I bought the Transcend cards out of curiosity because they were cheap - and they feel a bit cheap compared with Sandisk - lighter and can be flexed slightly. The transfer speed is slightly faster than my older Sandisk Extreme III SDHC 8GB card.

Nikon only tests a few memory cards, typically from Lexar, Sandisk and perhaps one or two others, and lists them in their manuals. Just because many other brands are not listed by Nikon merely means Nikon hasn't explicitely tested them; most of them would still work perfectly on Nikon cameras.

When I first got the D800, I tried a bunch of CF and SD memory cards on it. At least among the memory cards I have, I have yet to find one that does not work on the D800. Among those that are SD, I have also used all of them on my D7000 and they all work fine. However, I own no Transcend memory cards.

Since the cards you have work in your V1, it appears they are not compatible with the D7000.

I have a Kingston 16gb (Ultimate 266x) card that will not format in my D800 but has worked fine for years in my D3. I get a message that the card may be damaged. It still works fine in my D3.

I have two Transcend UDMA 400x 32GB CF cards. I purchased them because they were slightly cheaper than the SanDisk cards I have been using.

The Transcend cards record images reliably on my D3, but they behave strangely in playback. When I hit the playback button, there is a long time delay before my D3 displays images. The time delay seems to be variable and sometimes my D3 locksup and I have to turn it off and on again to get images to display.

I have four SanDisk Ultra 30 MB/s 16GB CF cards. They operate reliably in all cases.

I use the SanDisk cards exclusively. I carry the Transcend cards around just in case I need more capacity. I almost never use them. I bought them over a year ago, so I cannot return them. I think I wasted about $300 on them.

I have checked the 128GB TRanscend in my D800 this morning, and that seems to work as it should.
Maybe Nikon will issue a firmware update for the D7000 in the coming months to solve this problem. Nikon, if you read this ..... please ???

All CF, SD, SDHC (4G to 32G), and SDXC (over 64G) have very specific standards. As long as both the memory card side and the camera side follow the standards closely, theoretically every SD card should work on the D7000. A friend of mine is a lead engineer for Sandisk. He said that in his office, there are a lot of different cameras of many different models for compatibility testing. The D7000 is so popular that every major memory card company should test with.

That is why I tend to stick to major brands such as Sandisk and Lexar. (Wish my friend could give me discount, though.) I have used many many different Nikon DSLR models and I have yet to come across one Sandisk or Lexar card that does not work, with cards as old as 8, 9 years.

On the lesser brands, quality control may or may not be as good. Sometimes "saving money" can end up costing more money as Allan found out the hard way.

My wife's D700 misbehaves when coupled with Transcend CF cards. The camera becomes sluggish, as Allan Armstrong describes. Furthermore, every once in a while, a picture gets "half-corrupted": it can be opened with ViewNX but Lightroom 4 (Windows) or Photoshop CS5 (Mac) refuse to open it complaining about an unexpected end of file.

These issues do not disappear after formatting the card, but were gone as soon as we used a new Sandisk CF card.

I usually buy Sandisk, even though they're not the cheapest. I also buy them from B&H or another reputable vendor, because there seems to be a thriving counterfeit racket in Sandisk cards. I would avoid ever buying them in Amazon Marketplace, discount stores, eBay or the like, just because I've had some bad experiences there from dodgy sellers.

Sandisk 128GB Extremem 45MB/s Class 10
Firmware A1.02, B1.02, L1.002

No problem in my D7000.

I usually keep the 128GB card in my D800 but I tried it in my D7000 to see if the camera "accepted" the card. It did.

Normally, I have a 64GB card for raw and 32GB card for jpegs and have number run into a problem.
