rds
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the Sekonic L308S and the L308S-U Flashmate digital light meters? Is there really any major differences? Or would one be just as well off with the L308S for less money than the L308S–U? I want to thank everyone now for their input.
barry_r
This is one of the questions asked on B&H's listing for the L308S-U:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1219217-REG/sekonic_401_307_l_308s_u_flashmate_light_meter.html
You can scroll down and read the answer there.
James G. Dainis
It is my understanding that the U on 308S-U stands for USA. It comes with a USA warranty. The 308S was intended for sale outside of the USA and does not normally come with a USA warranty except for units currently in stock at B&H Photovideo. Physically the two meters are the same. dhbebb
I have 2 of these, on one a button jammed and the meter had to go back for warranty repair, so I would say if the price difference is not too great, the deal with a home-country warranty is worth having.
c_watson1
The 308 is one of Sekonic's longest-running designs. I've had two, both bought used, that never gave me a nano-second of grief.
If you're in the US and want a new one, then get a 308 with a US warranty. Otherwise, they're fairly easy to find used if you want/need to economize a bit. They're bomb-proof and deadly accurate.
