lester_wareham
Brad; re the close focus. It is all relative, but I am thinking relative to say the 400/5.6. I use the 300/4+1.4x II for birds but this will focus close enough for dragonflies etc, although I would normally reach for my 100 macro or 180L for those. lester_wareham
Don: yes you are correct, obviously a 1.4x looses a little sharpness although I can still crop heavily. Af is slowed with a tc also but as long as the range limiter is focus is fast enough for BIF even on my old 20D.
ldavidson
John, thanks so much for the link, very helpful information. The photos are wonderful. I love the detail in the birds and squirrel. If I get anything half that good I will be thrilled.

dcstep
Add a 1.4X TC and you've covered a lot of ground with that wonderful lens.
