I have Voigtlander envy again

I have an M3 with a Leica Super Angulon 21/3.4 and a Chrome Rigid "cron (50/2) which I love. One of my best friends owns a Nikon D5100 with kit zoom, but he got the Rangefinder bug from yours truly. He called me and I went over to his house. Damn!! He got a CV R4M black with a CV 21/4 and a R3M Black with a Heliar 50/2. Oh gosh how sweet!!!

The R4M is a sweet camera but it can only take coat button lenses without extensive finder blockage. If you really want to get it and the CV 21/4 do so by all means. Get the new CV 25/4 and the CV 28/3.5 if you can find one. Then you should be happy.

I have a IIIf with an Elmar 50/3.5 and the M3 and Summicron 50/2 looks pretty good--though I will stick with the IIIf which is such a beautiful little camera. It's easy to wish for more gear. I understand the interest in wide angle lenses, but what is to prevent you from sticking one on your M3 with an external viewfinder? I have the Snapshot Skopar 25/4 and the 15/4.5 which are zone focused. I never understood having RF-linked lenses for wide angle lenses 25mm and wider.

Go shooting with a CV and a fast 50mm lens and you will run back to your M3. The rangefinder base on the CV cameras is tiny. The R4M does sound like fun with wide angle lenses, where the small base would not matter much.

I had and sold an R2 because the focusing was not consistent enough. The focusing problems went away instantly when I started using a iiif.

I had a Bessa R3a which I liked a lot, but for us glasses wearers the R2a is a lot better. In fact, the R2a is one of the nicest cameras I ever owned. Great meter! If only the shutter were a little quieter, but for the money it was a real jewel. Never had any problems focusing any lens on it, but I never shot anything faster than a collapsible 50 2.0 Summicron on it either.

I know, the rangefinder base is really small, but it never affected my shots. Not sure it would be the best thing for a 90 2.0 lens, but I learned a long time ago that if I want to shoot portraits, use a SLR so I can see exactly what is in, and more importantly out, of focus.
