William D. Lester
Anyone know when Hasselblad discontinued selling these? I have 1 on each of my two cameras and find them very convenient and accurate. I'm just curious to know how old the newest of them might be as it is my understanding that the selenium cells used in them eventually stop working. So far, there doesn't seem to have been any degradation in their performance.
William D. Lester
christopher_ward2
Bill,
My Hasselblad system guide lists this meter as 1957-1991. #54011 or TIMCC
Chris
q.g._de_bakker
The Selenium cells as such do not age, do not wear.
What makes them stop working is corrosion, which typically creeps in through corroded leads attaching the cell, fully encased in protective glass, to the electronics outside the sealed pod. When those leads begin to corrode, they crack the glass seal, and then depending on the size of the breach, the Selenium cell will be gone rather soon.
So take good care of the meter, and the Selenium cell will live and work forever, as accurate as the day it was first made.
And all that without batteries!
