took about 30 shots and almost got one in focus after it dove from a cottonwood, grabbed a rat out of the river and then proceeded back to it's nest.....one of the shots was right as it plucked the rat (with a nice splash and reflection on the water) but unfortunately i focused on a rock about 30ft. away......quite a good looking rock i might add......:)

00aS3e-470917584.jpg.0a1641b5b13d51db87d6975a13e0eb9f.jpg

Our town had a hot air balloon festival last week. One balloon launched from the grounds of an elementary school, and I wanted to get the two in the same frame.

00aS3o-470923584.jpg.e74ab6e60028f357f81fbfbf99af34d6.jpg

Wow! Some really great photos this week. This one is from Monday at the Veterans Cemetery in Riverside California. We were there to visit my Dad's grave site for the first time. He passed away in November last year. We also took a few photos as they had the place all dressed up for the Holiday. These people looked like they spent the day there. 7D 70-200 2.8L @ f/5.6 1/1250 sec ISO 200

00aS44-470935584.jpg.d74ec5d4c4980b67617f50bae9945ea7.jpg

Another Thursday of great photos by all!
I like Nathan's "short legged" GBH standing in the moss (I think!),
Thom's Bald Eagle,
Dave's Burrowing Owl,
Bill K's Black Neck Stilts &
Andy's Hummer,
And JDM's pile of (edit!) Prairie dogs!
My contribution for this week is kind of like Mark Kissel's, . . . "A bigger and slower bird!"
Attended an EAA sponsored "Fly-in" in the city of Amelia Earharts birthplace!
I think because of it's location, it draws a considerable amount of female Pilots compared to other fly-ins around the area that I have attended.
Although no areobatics are allowed at these fly-ins, I bet this "Gal" could put on quite a performance as demonstrated by her low high speed pass!

00aS4o-470937584.jpg.f66d2cc2e879b1651e94889d6a997acc.jpg

Wonderful photos so far this week. I really like Lupo's "Worried Mother".
I went to a local arboretum last week looking for some flowers or wildlife. I saw the texture of the bark on this tree and thought it would look good in black and white. This was converted using DPP.

It was a semi-hazy morning on Sunday when I took this photo -- in honor of the Golden Gate Bridge's 75th Anniversary. I wonder if others have posted similar? I have not checked the images here yet.

00aS88-470969684.jpg.e0355cb52eea35e9c95180dfe81831f3.jpg

<h6 data-ft="{"type":1,"tn":"K"}">Oh no, it looks like poor Owl is stuck! Maybe he needs to go on a diet. This reminds me of the Winnie the Pooh Gets Stuck children's story. Actually the screech owl is probably fine and just napping for the day

00aSOT-471281584.jpg.694d38ce0a817eab0168f505d8a77811.jpg
