stemked
Looks like I'm the first one up. A few images from a hike this Thursday. First, a beautiful salamander from Brown County State Park, Indiana (Long Tailed Salamander)
Pentax K7, 100mm DA macro at f16
Next a baby Eastern Box Turtle less than 2 inches (5 cm) in size. This little guy was quite brave and refused to duck into its shell.

Finally on the same hike a very striking moth, Mournful Thyris. It's a lot more beautiful as long as you don't realize its sitting on dog poop.

duane_mills
Great kick off Doug. The turtle is my fav of the 3. htarragon
Doug, Interesting shots. Duane, how far north are you? Looks like one of the ancestors of those bergs took out the Titanic although I recently heard that the rivets on the liner were under specifications (iron, not steel) so they opened like a zipper when struck. Steel rivets would have held and would have allowed only a small hole and allowed the ship to stay afloat.
All of my shots this week were taken with the 55-300 on the K-5. This is the lens that I seem to fall back on most and usually at the longer end. Here's three examples:
one

htarragon
By the way, the MLU option on the K-5 is sooo easy, it's right there on the shooting options choices using the four-way controller with a choice of using a remote or not.

shots worth sharing
There's a spot near Clara's school I like to visit when I get the chance. I've posted a fair number of shots from there. It's got birds and a varied landscape--including a protected soggy stream floodplain. I was there last week but didn't have the time or energy for a serious birding expedition so just wandered a bit with the 100-300/4 Sigma I had with me for the 4pm lacrosse game (but I did put the 1.4x in my pocket.)
Cattails

Skunk Cabbage

I needed the TC for this one. They may have been at one time (not sure) but Orioles aren't that common in the region so I was pretty happy to get this--it was a very brief opportunity.

snik75
Thanks Jemal! I really like Duane's shot with the iceberg and kids. Wish the ice wasn't blown out, but that is tough exposure. Also, Markus' beetles are very nice.
