paul_richardson9 Posted December 29, 2011 Share Posted December 29, 2011
Hey,
Just wondered if anyone has used one of the split image screens for the 500d? I'm starting to use my old manual focus lenses, and a split image would really help with the focusing.

Im looking at something like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Single-180-Split-Image-focus-Screen-Canon-EOS-350D-400D-500D-20D-30D-SLR-Camera-/260912218203?pt=US_Viewfinders_Eyecups&hash=item3cbf94805b

Anyway, has anyone had experience with them, and would the recommend buying one or not?

Thanks!
Paul
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Charles_Webster Posted December 29, 2011 Share Posted December 29, 2011
I had a split image focusing screen in my 300D and while it made manual focus easier, it was pretty useless on slower lenses (zooms at f/5.6 end) and in dim light. It was just too dark to see when focus was achieved.

I didn't install one on my subsequent two camera bodies.

<Chas>
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
steven_f1 Posted December 29, 2011 Share Posted December 29, 2011
You might want to look at http://www.katzeyeoptics.com/. I have seen positive comments about them in the past. I haven't had experience with the company you found or Katzeye but I have installed a split image screeen on my 5D (from a different manufacture) and it does help with manual focusing.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
