plangereis Posted January 10, 2012 Share Posted January 10, 2012
I have a Chimera softbox (36 x 48), and was wondering if I have to use their grid. There must be other manufacturers that make the same size softbox, and also a grid to support that size. Would I be able to use another manufacturer's grid in my Chimera softbox?
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
henryp Posted January 11, 2012 Share Posted January 11, 2012
Photoflex and Westcott make 3.6x48 fabric grids. I've never tried this but as long as you can Velcro the grid to the box, you shouldn't have a problem.

Henry Posner
B&H Photo-Video
Henry Posner B&H Photo-Video Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Charles_Webster Posted January 12, 2012 Share Posted January 12, 2012
Or even use clothes-pin style clamps. Since one of my softboxes has no external velcro for attaching a fabric grid, I just use clamps to attach it.

<Chas>

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
plangereis Posted January 15, 2012 Author Share Posted January 15, 2012
Thanks for your responses, Henry and Charles. I just read in another forum that you could use the Photoflex fabric grid (36x48) in the Chimera softbox I have. Apparently it is a little small for the softbox, but the individual that used this combination said this worked to their advantage as the grid became more "tight" because it was slight undersized.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
