jenkins
I have just finished a Music CD cover for a client/friend and was wondering do I put a copyright sign on the back of the CD or do I need to discuss that first with him?

It is my image and I have done this for free.

craig_shearman1
Photos on a CD don't necessarily even get a photo credit let alone their own copyright notice. If you have done this as a paying job, then your contract will state whether you do this or not. If you did it as a favor as a friend, then he/she should definitely give you credit, as in "Cover Photo by Simon Jenkins". If you want to include the copyright notice the phrasing could be "Cover Photo Copright 2011 Simon Jenkins". Somewhere on the CD or the jewel case insert your friend will most likely want their own copyright notice referring to the music/performance along the lines of "Copyright 2011 Simon's Friend".
