Canon Data Memory Back 90 problem

So I have acquired thru eBay DMB 90.
Thing is that LCD screen's info is flashing constantly when in D mode. It doesn't imprint data on picture (I really don't mind that) and it takes lot of hassle from me to make it remember data. Turns out that my DMB 90 does it only when in RD mode, in other modes it doesn't remember anything.

I've read a manual it says that flashing screen requires intervention from Canon Service Centre but obviously it is some 20 years too late for that.
I had taken out cells, let is sit overnight draining capacitors but not to avail.
Is there any simple solution for this problem, or should I rather dispose of it and fish for another one?
