Lots of great shots so far.
Arthur Reyes - shots like remind me that my next lens needs to be a macro lens.
Following along on Nathan's theme - I got out to the local state park on Columbus day. This is my first attempt using a neutral density filter to get the blurred water effect.

When I am going out to shoot a test roll of film for a camera posting on Classic Manual Cameras or Modern Film Cameras or just going out to take pictures, I often shoot a picture of my neighbor's flag to make sure the film is going through the camera/all is working, etc.
Here are a couple of such shots. Eventually I'll do some sort of banal seasonal collage or some such, but I was just combing through files to track these down and get copies in one place. The picture on the left was taken with a Canon EOS 1 camera with Ektar 100. The picture on the right is with a Canon EOS 5D on early Xmas Eve morning last year.
Just something I've been fooling with this week.

00ZSlT-406351584.jpg.7c8ee88a0766c08f3d08b164a7eb8806.jpg

It was getting late, but the pond was smooth as glass, the heron was motionless and I really like the reflected color. Just as I was thinking it was time to pack it up and head home, the heron took off, flying straight at me before veering off down the shoreline. I got a sequence of shots as I panned his flight, but most of them were not usable. When I got home and checked out what I had gotten, this was my favorite shot of the evening.
Canon EOS 50D, EF 100-300mm f 4.5-5.6 at 300mm, ISO 800, f8, 1/25 second

00ZSmW-406365584.jpg.aa6adc76b25b719ad1dc97347abfb0bc.jpg

Nathan, thanks. That's pretty much what I say every time I look at the shot. I've been taking photos since I was eight years old (that just about 55 years), have an Associate Degree in commercial photography, and take my camera with me almost everywhere I go, and I have to say I think this is one of, if not the personal favorite of all my work so far. And it was about 10% skill, 10% preparation, and 80% luck.

The end of most of a weeks worth of snow fall last Saturday evening just as the day was ending, clouds that had dumped snow on the San Juan mountains near Wolf creek pass, were breaking up revealing spruce trees fully snow packed, and mountain tops white capped along side aspens at the lower elevations just starting to reach the peak of fall color display. Spent a couple hours out there near Williams lake north of Pagosa Springs, Co. just soaking up the scene of clouds/light and peaks playing peak-a-boo with the ever changing mood of the last light of day. Was sooo glad to have decided to take a run out that way as I observed the storm clouds breaking up from 25 miles away in Pagosa. Take time to fully enjoy the displays provided by the Creator.

00ZSn2-406371584.jpg.6fdac4d5e074be5c51f465a6cca6e127.jpg

Street demonstrations are the highlights for many major cities in the USA this past week. I have been busy taking photographs of the demonstration known as Occupy Seattle. Here is one of the street scenes which I felt had to be shown in color.

00ZSnp-406383584.jpg.3c20a6d3e7b7925eb54aef46f96f56d0.jpg

Another great collection of shots. I really like everything, and feel compelled to comment on a few:
Robin's West Point shot is just great - the subject, the colors, the expressions, the angles, all work perfectly together for me.
Ken's shot of fog at the Golden Gate. Great shot of a sight I've loved since I was a kid. I think I even have a third grade project where I wrote "I love when the fog looks like a tidal wave".
Brad's tattoo.
Jeff's fight night. A wonderful shot, timeless and modern together.
Lupo, again.
David's elk - wonderful expression on that face, and a beautiful, sharp shot with great color.
Dan's heron taking off. Wow.
Rik - welcome! Beautiful shot.
My contribution this week is of all the pumpkins that were grown in our garden this year, along with the shy gardeners. Happy fall everyone!

00ZSoS-406391584.jpg.38ee420137a7c3a7d3677fda115b9b8a.jpg
