unclebuddha
Yes, I know I should go up to Banff and the mountains. I'm going to be in Calgary TOMORROW and I'm interested in shooting. Any place downtown that is interesting?
Thanks!
frank_kohn
The zoo has some very cool exhibits. You should also hit the CN tower for good scenic. And if you hvae time get to The Dinosaur museum in Drumheller. Near Jasper you need to take the gondola up to Whistler's Peak for amazing panorama shots and then head to Spirit lake.
stemked
It's been many years since I lived in Alberta, but as noted the CN Tower (which is downtown) is good as is Fort Calgary, the Heritage Park, maybe the Olympic Park as well. Sorry I can't recall how far these other locations are from Downtown.
arie_vandervelden1
Calgarian here. Welcome to our city.

We have the Calgary tower here - the CN tower is in Toronto. Whatever the name, I'd skip it.

Walking downtown is a great idea. Lots of glass and steel towers. Start at Stephen Avenue Mall (8th ave), a pedestrian street. Head north up 3rd st W to Eau Claire and check out Prince's Island Park. Head east along the river and make your way to Chinatown (center st) and the Chinese cultural center. Be sure to have a look inside.

Just after sundown, at blue hour, cross center street bridge to the north bank of the river and climb up the northeast bank, on the right. There's a little park at the top. Now look back towards the city and you've got the prime spot for photographing the Calgary skyline.
