Got back a few days ago from a trip to Banff National Park. Hiked approximately 145 kilometers. Started in Banff. Majority of images were taken with Pentax K10D with a handful from my wifes's Lumix. 1) Mt Rundll reflected in Vermillion Lake. Tamron 18-250mm / f 11.0 @ 1/350 / ISO 280 @ fl 35.0 2) Alberta Native American Celebration in Banff town park / "The Chief" / smc Pentax - FA 35mm / f 11.0 @ 1/250 sec / ISO 140 @ fl 35.0 3) Happy Hour at St. James Gate / smc Pentax - FA 35mm / f 2.8 @ 1/30 sec / ISO 800 @ fl 35.0 / No Flash handheld

Last Sunday was the first-ever joint gathering of Puget Sound area classic Corvette and classic Thunderbird collectors. The rivalry between makes is about as old as I am. And so were some of the jokes they kept trading.

They chose to ride around my hometown island. My shooting partner invited me to ride shotgun in his 'Vette--which terminated the line due to its being a 2009 model. The tour ended at our local lighthouse. A shot taken from above with my Canon 7D and the Tokina 50-135mm (just like its Pentax cousin) can be viewed here. We had a lot of fun.

I spent most of the past week in Mtunzini north of Durban which provided a nice relief after a lot of cold late-winter weather we've been having.
Started out with a walk in the forest with a K20D and M50 f1.7

I'm interested to see what comments I get on the next one. I'm not really sure if the lens produces an exceptionally harsh bokeh wide open shot into the sun or if it is flaring. Either way, it is interesting.

And finally, two of a visit to Ongoye Nature Reserve. First-off, the coral trees are in flower (with a 16-45mm f4)

Well, I'm still pluggin' away with the China photos. I didn't make much progress this week because Clara handed off some flu-like thing she picked up at camp (it hardly slowed her down at all but hit me like a Mack truck.)
Here's one that puzzles me: it's some neglected corner in Shanghai. I don't know why I like it but I do.

I had a cycling fan's dream come true day on Wednesday. I rode in a team car in the Queen Stage (biggest one) in the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. It's a big stage race with a bunch of top pro cyclists (like the whole 2011 Tour de France podium). It was a fantastic day and the photo opportunities were pretty unique. I was originally supposed to be on a motorcycle which would have been better photographically, but this might have been more interesting. It went from my town of Gunnison to Aspen for about 100 Miles and two big passes to climb.
The car I rode in was that of a Colombian team. These guys are great, they are very low budget and all about the race. They don't even have rain gear so at one point coming off a high pass I lent one of them my jacket because he was freezing. The commentators on Versus joked about it because it's not a cycling jacket. Then "my" guy went on to win the King of the Mountains title! We had to help in the car too, handing drinks up when riders needed them. A great experience and some fun photos.
Here's one with my jacket in it. :)
.
Then I hiked back to near Crested Butte from Aspen where the race finished via W. Maroon Pass, a 11 Mile (plus a couple more at the end to get to the car) backcountry trail connecting the towns that take several hours to drive between because of the mountains.
I shot this panoramic near the summit of the climb at over 12,000 Ft. This is looking back at the Maroon Bells. 9 images stitched using MS ICE.
Fun week that produced a lot of memorable images!

Yeah Matt, neat pano, and better story!
Henk, that is normal for the M 50/1.7 - specular highlights become hexagons when stopped down. I like it!

I spent a few days in Chicago, and did a lot of touristy things. Mostly family pics but I did find some to share here. I have more than three, but perhaps I will start a thread for the rest.

First, the Ferris wheel on Navy Pier:

00ZFmF-393729684.JPG.a2a513df17033808b85010337339aeaf.JPG

Michael, the flower shot looks great! Coneflower is fun to photograph, with the colors and swirly patterns.

Here's a view under a fountain along the Chicago river. Slow shutter speed -> small aperture -> lots of dust to clone out, probably didn't get it all.

00ZFmH-393731584.JPG.bd5265a34fd56cfef000e38d14d2154d.JPG

Matt, do you where a a cape and a shirt with a big red S? The pano is fabulous-again.
Well, Irene is finally gone from NYC. I haven't seen any damage in my neighborhood, but I haven't ventured very far. It's in the 60's now and cool. Last week was warm and summer was in full bloom as it will be again this week.
Here are some plant shots and a hidden scene.
First - Cannas

Bob Marz - That shot of the St. James Gate brings back some great memories of a lamb shank braised in Guinness.

I set up another evening dinner and photo outing for our local club earlier this week. We went to the Little Italy area of San Diego to try our hand at some handheld low light stuff. No tripods this time. We had dinner and then just wandered around the area taking pictures, eventually ending up at a really good gelato place. I took my DA Limited lenses, but at the last minute decided to toss the FA 50/1.4 in bag too. I've not been able to get real excited in the past about 50mm on APS-C, but after Tuesday night I think I'm going to spend more time with that lens. All three with the K-7 and FA50/f.1.4.

There are a few more on my blog (along with a bunch of new tiger cub pictures from the San Diego Zoo shot with my Nikon).

Nick, feel free to post them here.. I shan't be posting any for a while! You can have all my three.
You notice how quick we are at times to jump down people's throats, but heaven forbid that we take care of routine maintenance issues, and cleaning up of threads that do need cleaning up because of double posts, etc..
