I saw this on Yahoo News.
"A stunning young woman walks down a street in Florence, her head held high. All around, men playfully gawk at her grace and beauty. Just then the camera shutter snaps. "American Girl in Italy" is among the most popular snapshots of all time, and it's turning 60 years old this month."

It's a well known photograph.

Perhaps it reflects the '50's well in Florence.

I once met a young woman who studied at the University there. She told me that the men fell into different categories in Florence. As for the police, she felt that the Carabinieri were a more professional, well trained and more gentlemanly form of the police. She also said that among the Army, the Bersaglieri were the most professional and gentlemanly to women. Later I learned that her grandfather was an NCO in the Bersaglieri.

Then I married her. We are still married some 35 years later.

Dropped by the opening today at the Bulger Gallery. (Was actually going to see George Zimbel's show and stumbled on this.)
Ninalee Craig was there, still looking great. Didn't chat with her as she had quite a few people around her. Nice show with a bunch of beautiful Ruth Orkin prints of Ninalee in Italy.
