michael_elenko
I really like Markus' first and third shots. The first one capture the motion and energy of the ship well. The special Takumar rendering brings out the sky merging with the building wonderfully. Definitely a photographer's shot.

I'm still sorting through my trip pictures. Here are a few more from Chanticleer gardens with Bob.
Chanticleer 1

K20D, FA 50mm macro, f 4.5 @ 1/500, ISO 200

Chanticleer 2

K20D, FA 50mm macro, f4.5 @ 1/750, ISO 200

Chanticleer 3

K20D, DA 70 Ltd, f4.5 @ 1/500, ISO 200

ME

rod_hilner
I finally got around to getting a dedicated macro lens to shoot such things as flowers, insects and misc. still lifes. I took the less expensive route in getting the Tamron manual focus adaptall 90mm lens. I may need to upgrade to the AF lens though. I am finding I get a lot of out-of- focus and soft focus shots... seems I underestimated the value of accurate AF and overestimated my visual acuity. Until then I just fire away and can usually get at least one sharp one.

Passion Flower

K20D / Tamron SP 90mm f/4 / 1/500s / ISO 200

Passion Flower and Honeybee

K20D / Tamron SP 90mm f/4 / 1/1000s / ISO 200

Mantis-like Creature

K20D / Tamron SP 90mm f/4 / 1/1000s / ISO 200
<a href="

michael_elenko
Rod H., Great colors and forms on your macro shots. There may be several contributing factors to your obtaining softer images than you expected. - use a tripod, enable mirror lockup, and get a cheap remote shutter control to eliminate vibration. - some versions of the earlier Tamron 90mm only went to 1:2. The lens required a dedicated TC to reach 1:1. Maybe you are aiming too close to the lens - your shots above are f4. A shallow DOF on closeups tends to convey artistic bokeh and other visual values rather than deep sharpness. Use f16 if you want razor edges throughout. That's where tripods are your friend. - unless you must handhold and have steady hands, AF for closeups is not all that valuable. I have three AF macro lenses, and always finish the shot using LiveView and manual focusing tweaks. Use the LiveView on your K20D. It's not as resolute as newer DSLRs provide, but you can tune edges at 4X well enough. - having a split-image focusing screen really helps my aging eyes as well. I swear by the KatzEye ultrabright model. Hope this helps. ME
markus maurer
Thanks for your nice comments about my Takumar shots Michael and Howard I'm only the photographer and not a rabbit breeder so I have to guess that they where more than two at the beginning from their different looks :-)

michael_elenko
Howard & Matt thanks. Summer is my least favorite time to shoot nature stuff because the light is so washed out for so long during the day. Still it is a healthy challenge that keeps your chops sharp..
