paul_wilson2
Out of 44 uploaded images in my portfolio, I have one that's had 19000 views, a few that have had 4000 to 6000 and the rest are in the 200 to 600 range. Why has one had so many more views? I assume the image has been linked somewhere else on photo.net but where?
seven
Paul : 1. PN has admitted that the view counter isn't particularly accurate; 2. Thumbnail hits count - meaning, when someone opens "gallery" or "critique photos" or "top-rated photos" and your image is a thumbnail on that page this will count as a 'view' : even though they might not click on the thumbnail to get a proper look at your masterpiece. If this explanation isn't in FAQs, it ought to be.
mottershead
The view counters are now accurate. The include all hits against the "/photodb/image-display" URL, which is used to retrieve thumbnails as well as the "medium" and "large" sizes of a photo. root
As too why one gets more views than the others, it's a matter of popularity. Without checking your portfolio, I'll bet it got more and higher ratings and therefore appeared on any number of top photos pages depending on which search criteria were used by members. Every time someone searched through the top photos page where your image appeared, you got a hit, whether or not someone glanced at your thumbnail out of twenty or not. This is why the top pages is in fact a competition - for views - although many don't like to admit it. And yes, Seven, maybe we should offer to assist in writing a greatly expanded FAQ.. .
