I won first place in the Landscape and Structures category in a photo contest! It's sort of a sandlot affair, sponsored by a local Friends of the Park group (of which, in the spirit of disclosure, I should confess I was once president.) I don't have any idea about how many submissions there were but I'm assured that the judges were "independent". Here's the photo (although I dampened down the red a bit in the version I submitted.) There were a couple of others I would rather have entered but they were 2:3 and the contest rules (grumble) required 8x10. Anyway, I'm now officially "an award-winning photographer."

Exposure is perfect, and I love the symetry of the composition as well as the quite peacefulness this corner of nature conveys, which you captured so well. Excellent job!

I know what you mean regarding being confined to an 8x10 crop. Was this shot with your K-5?

Thanks, again! It's kind of a "mini-" landscape--a genre what has definite appeal for me. I think it's the light that makes that photo. It was taken with a K20D & Tamron 28-75mm (@ 28mm), Michael, about this time last year.

To my mind, the 8x10 requirement tends to support the "sandlot" characterization. I considered re-cropping some other shots but just couldn't bring myself to butcher them in that way. I think it's interesting that, somewhere along the way, I seem to have developed a sense of aesthetic integrity--whodathunk?.
