Does any motion picture software work similarly to photoshop

Recommended Posts

I use the combo Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for photos with Adobe Premiere Elements 8 for videos (now both are up to Rev 9). The work well together although either can work on its own. I combine prints and short video clips but you can use the Premiere for long movies as well. You can edit the film clips changing colors, contrast etc just like Photoshop Elements would on prints. It doesn't have layers but you can apply various effect as well ascolor/contrast/ and the like.

I haven't checked recently but you should be able to by the combo for around $100 (get Rev 9 the latest). Or you can buy it on its own. You should have a fair amount of computer power as Premiere can bog down if your underpowered. You might check to see if Adobe has a trial version you can download. good luck and feel free to ask any questions. Alan

I have been toying with this idea for a while (just for the heck of it - I don't actually need anything beyond Aperture). Perhaps Final Cut Studio, which includes Shake (for compositing) and Color (for... you guessed it!). There is also Combustion and Inferno. Motion picture software can be more expensive but then again, Alan showed that it can be cheaper.

Although not an editing program, per se, Adobe After Effects is the post-production tool with capabilities most-similar to Photoshop, and is a very powerful 2D effects/compositing tool for motion video. It's an extremely powerful program most often used to create motion graphics, but also, just as often, used to create stunning 3D-like compositing effects. AE has a fairly steep learning curve. It's also expensive (about $1,000 for the "production" version, which includes motion-tracking). Apple Shake, another powerful FX application is no longer sold or supported by Apple, and is not included in Final Cut Studio. Shake originally sold as a standalone product for about $5,000. But, after Apple announced its discontinuation, Shake was discounted to about $250.
