A camera for good photography

<p>Of course, not every classic camera is cheap and basic, but some are. For instance, Haking's Halina-Prefect. It has made it onto the Gene M's web site which alone would make this camera a classic. But it also looks cute and TLR -- which it isn't. It's a simple box camera with a fixed double-meniscus lens. It provides you with a choice of 2 shutter speeds (I and B) and 3 aperture values (8, 11, 16). The viewfinder is big. Well, it is the only good thing about the viewfinder, because it's also very distorted and tricky to view.<br /> <img src="http://pics.livejournal.com/lazy_clown/pic/0007cr05" alt="" width="500" height="367" /><br /> To me this camera is kind of significant... It was the first vintage camera I ran a film through. And liked it. Film photography turned out to be a good fun. So the slogan was not all wrong after all.<br /> Here are some pictures. <p>Pretty heavy vignetting for a camera that is "precision-built for good photography"! Still, it's an interesting old artifact.</p>

<p>I've often wondered just how good/bad the Prefect was; in my experience, not much of great quality was produced by Hakings. But these are charming photographs; "Wind" certainly takes me back! Thanks for another nice post.</p>

<p>Awww.... I like the self-portrait with cloud. I have a few of those that include the face of a 3 year-old boy.</p>

<p>Ahhh, the Chinese were never given to understatement! I also identify with the self portrait, I have many of these taken with dodgy old cameras (is that shutter actually going off?) but mine have much more of my ugly mug showing, you can't have been looking close enough.</p>
